Does Cursor (Individual: Privacy Mode ON) train on your code?
Anysphere · Individual: Privacy Mode ON · checked 2026-10-19
No training, ZDR with model providers. Solid, but cloud-only.
Trains on code
No
Default
Privacy Mode is available to anyone (Free or Pro) but must be switched on; Cursor doesn't publish the individual default on the pages checked.
How to opt out
Already opted out. Keep Privacy Mode on and avoid models labeled non-ZDR (they need admin opt-in).
Retention
Zero data retention agreements with all model providers. File contents cached temporarily on Cursor servers (encrypted, never stored permanently). Exceptions: abuse-flagged requests may be kept for investigation; some models (e.g. Claude Fable 5/5.1) need provider retention and admin approval. Cloud Agents store encrypted repo copies temporarily while running.
Telemetry
Not published: no client-telemetry documentation found on the pages checked.

Zero data retention
yes · ZDR with providers under Privacy Mode; doesn't apply when you use your own API keys.
Offline / local model
no · Requests always route through Cursor's backend.
Self-hostable
partial · Self-Hosted Machines: tool execution local, agent loop in Cursor cloud.
